Job Summary :
The Frances Loeb Library is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and self-directed individual for a full-time term Project Archivist position to process the Howard Elkus Collection. The Howard Elkus Collection consists of drawings, correspondence, and project files related to Elkus’ work as an architect, along with his personal research materials. The Project Archivist is overseen by the Special Collections Curator with support from the Collection Management Archivist.
The candidate must have experience processing archival collections and be familiar with archival fundamentals and terminology. The Project Archivist will be responsible for developing a processing plan and creating a DACS compliant finding aid using ArchivesSpace.

Position Description :
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop a processing plan for the collection, considering existing processing procedures and the duration of the position.
Implement and carry out the arrangement and description of a large collection of architectural materials.
Manage the movement of the collection materials with an existing online retrieval and pick-up system between the storage depository to the processing area to ensure timely processing of the collection.
Create and enter accurate, consistent metadata that will support discoverability of and access to the collection.
Work collaboratively with Collections Team staff and Conservator for the proper housing, care, and handling of the collection.
Other duties related to the collection may be assigned, including selection of items for potential digitization.
Basic Qualifications :
Master’s degree in library or information science required from an ALA-accredited program with advanced coursework in archival management or a Master’s in archival studies required.
A minimum of two years of recent experience cataloging large archives and special collections in a variety of genres, including visual materials.
Familiarity with standard collections care, and archives/museum good practices.
Familiarity with the principles and practices of archival description; practical experience with Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS) preferred.
Demonstrated working experience in creating and entering accurate, consistent metadata, particularly in relational databases.
Intermediate to advanced skill level with Word and Excel.
Additional Qualifications and Skills :
An undergraduate degree in relevant discipline, such as Architecture and/or allied design disciplines preferred, but not required.
Working knowledge of archival management systems such as ArchivesSpace preferred.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience working with architectural materials in archives, special collections or museum setting preferred.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to work at a keyboard and in front of a computer screen for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions :
The interview process and position may be modified and is currently circumstantial, including a mix of virtual and in-person interviews, and remote and in-person onboarding.
This position will be based onsite at the Frances Loeb Library of the Harvard Graduate School of Design, in Cambridge, MA.
This is a 6-month Term position and includes regular benefits.

Work Format Details :
This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
