First Source Jobs Program Expands!

SCC is pleased to announce an exciting contract award from Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experience (SCALE) to establish a job-sector preparation program targeted primarily for SCALE students interested in career growth.
This partnership is supported by a contract from Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).  Through this partnership, over the next 4 years, SCC will use its sector specific cohort job readiness model to provide contextualized training and support, starting in the hospitality and health care sectors. This is a great opportunity for local residents, particularly those engaged in English Learning and Adult Basic Education, to connect with peers, employers, and career growth opportunities and support.

This program will offer twenty-four (24) hours of instruction and an additional eight (8) hours of presentations by advanced training providers and potential employers, for a total of thirty-two (32) hours. Classes will provide students the opportunity to explore a variety of career pathways in a given sector, to develop resumes and cover letters, to learn about interviewing and workplace etiquette, to receive financial literacy/planning assistance, and to benefit from twenty hours of one-on-one coaching beyond class hours to help them navigate training and/or find a job, as well as receive post-placement retention support.

SCC has also recently received  support from the Gaming Commission through the Metro North Regional Employment Board and the PIC to support its efforts to recruit, coach, and support First Source participants eligible for hospitality jobs at the Encore Casino.

Somerville sits on the original homelands of the Massachusett, Wampanoag, Naumkeag, and Nipmuc tribal nations. We acknowledge the painful history of genocide and forced removal from this territory, and we honor and respect the many diverse Indigenous peoples still connected to this land on which we live and work.
