Summary:
NOTE: This is a non-benefits eligible temporary position
Harvard University Graduate School of Design seeks an experienced WordPress Developer. The GSD maintains a network of WordPress based sites, additionally we will soon be launching a rebuild of our current flagship site which is migrating from Classic Editor to Gutenberg. We are seeking a temporary WordPress developer to assist our team in the maintenance of the existing network of sites. Additionally, this role will be part of the GSD’s current web team (consisting of developers, project managers and content creators) working closely with our vendor to QA our new flagship site.
The GSD’s QA process for new websites, including cross-browser and cross-device testing, reporting bugs, and approving tickets once they’ve been fixed by the vendor. This process will include back-end and front-end testing, so an eye for detail and understanding technical documents and design files is essential. Experience using BrowserStack is preferred.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Engage in the QA process for the launch of our new flagship site.
• Perform regular site maintenance tasks such as testing and installing updates
• Troubleshoot and resolve any website issues that may arise
• Address theme issues and enhancement requests
• Maintain a high level of code quality and adhere to coding standards
• Maintain existing documentation

[Full-Time (Hourly)] Hourly Rate: 50-60

Schedule Requirements:
Ability to meet (virtually) during regular business hours (M-F 9-5 Eastern Time Zone (ET)) with the GSD web team/
This is a hybrid or fully remote position depending on the location of the hired candidate. The position is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment. We regret that Harvard University cannot provide VISA sponsorship for this position.

Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications:
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• 5-10 years of professional experience using Project tools such as Notion, Trello, Asana or Teamwork
• Ability to meet (virtually) during regular business hours (9-5 Eastern Time Zone (ET)) with the GSD web team
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
• Proven experience as a WordPress developer with a strong portfolio of work
• Excellent knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/React
• Experience with version control systems – Git
• Strong understanding of SEO best practices
• Experience with testing for WCAG 2.2 compliance using personal knowledge as well as various tools such as SiteImprove’s browser plugin and Browerstack’s accessibility tools.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
Level of English Required: Intermediate
