AFFILIATIONS

Somerville Community Corporation (SCC) is able to succeed thanks to the support and hard work of an array of allies and partners. It is through these relationships that we are able to forge deep-rooted involvement, create an organized voice, and build strong, sustainable communities. We thank our valued partners and look forward to our future endeavors together!

COALITIONS

In 2013, SCC joined Raise Up Massachusetts Coalition, a coalition of community organization, labor unions, and faith-based groups working to raise the state minimum wage and implement earned sick time for all workers.

In 2009, we were part of the Welcoming Massachusetts Campaign to make Massachusetts a welcoming, pro-immigrant state. 

PARTNERSHIPS

We partner with many local organizations, including:

  • Cambridge Neighborhood Apartment Housing Services works to create and preserve affordable housing opportunities in Cambridge, MA.
  • Community Action Agency of Somerville works to reduce poverty among local families and individuals while working to counteract – and whenever possible, eliminate – the societal conditions that cause and perpetuate poverty.
  • Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) is an agency that works to encourage the production and preservation of housing that is affordable to low and moderate income families and individuals and to foster diverse and sustainable communities through planning and community development
  • East Somerville Main Streets is a non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding the East Broadway Business District as the heart of the East Somerville community and as a vibrant destination through volunteer-driven events and initiatives which play off of the unique characteristics of the neighborhood in order to further develop that character. 
  • Friends of The Community Path are a group of citizens in Somerville and greater Boston who are advocating to extend this well-loved Somerville path 2.5 miles from its current ending at Cedar Street in Somerville to the Charles River paths.
  • Greater Boston Legal Services provides free civil (non-criminal) legal assistance to low-income people in Boston and thirty-one additional cities and towns.
  • Groundwork Somerville aims to build sustainable communities through joint environmental action.
  • LIFT student advocates work side-by-side with low-income community members to address members’ immediate needs and chart a sustainable path out of poverty.
  • Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance / Great Neighborhoods Initiative is a place-based program of the Alliance that supports local people working on smart growth projects in their communities that create affordable homes, preserve and create open space, build alternative transportation infrastructure to support walking and biking, and engage in placemaking.
  • Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences (SCALE) provides classes and support services to adult students (16 years and older), who need basic reading, writing and math skills, English instruction for non-native speakers or a high-school credential.
  • Somerville Community Health Agenda is a partnership between Cambridge Health Alliance, Somerville Health Department and the community that facilitates collaborative community processes to improve the health of Somerville residents.
  • Somerville Local First works to build a sustainable local economy and vibrant community here in Somerville, MA. by supporting locally owned and independent businesses and promoting sustainable economic development.
  • Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership (STEP) is a community group fighting for improved transportation in Somerville.
  • Somerville Homeless Coalition transforms lives by providing services, support, resources and housing to well over 600 men, women and children.
  • Somerville Mental Health Association is a community-based nonprofit that provides mental health and substance abuse services to individuals that live or work in Somerville.
  • Teen Empowerment works to empower youth and adults as agents of individual, institutional, and social change
  • The Career Place (TCP) works to connect workers and employers through job fairs, youth development, networking, and more.
  • The Welcome Project is a community-based initiative the builds the collective power of Somerville immigrants to participate in and shape community decisions through programs that strengthen the capacity of immigrant youth, adults and families to advocate for themselves and influence schools, government, and other institutions
