On Thursday night, May 5th, a fire completely destroyed a nine-family building on Somerville’s Rush/Brook streets – along with all of the belongings of the 35 occupants – 23 adults and 12 children. Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Somerville High School’s Center for Career, Vocational, and Technical Education (CVTE) are proud to announce the Advanced Manufacturing Training Program (AMTP), an expansion upon the CVTE’s successful youth programming. Funded with a grant by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Executive Office of Housing Economic Development, The AMTP will target Somerville residents aged 18-24 and focus on preparing them for high paying careers in the manufacturing industry. On June 6, SCC held a block party at our Linden Street properties. Tenants and neighbors enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of games, fun activities, and food. We followed up by hosting a community design workshop in Union Square East, where people shared what they want to see in their neighborhood around connectivity, density, and benefits as new development occurs.Read more about Summertime Fun!
