It was a marvelous morning, despite a little drizzle, to kick off SCC's 50th. The rocket theme was in full effect as our emcee, Libby Mahaffy, stepped out in an astronaut suit, complete with helmet and jet pack. As guests enjoyed the delicious food catered by Jules Catering, Mayor Curtatone gave a wonderful welcome and promised to fulfill his pledge to jump into the Mystic River and Danny LeBlanc reminisced about SCC's beginnings.

SCC's Position on D2 and the Union Square CBA

June 26, 2019

SCC firmly supports the community’s hard work to reach an agreement between US2 and the Union Square Neighborhood Council for a CBA (Community Benefits Agreement).  SCC’s top priorities through the CBA are:  1) to make sure the new development in Union Square includes timely and ample affordable housing, and 2) that the development provides quality jobs and career growth opportunities for low income residents in Somerville.

Snapshot from the Past - SCC's Beginnings

June 26, 2019

On June 25, 1969, around a dozen local activists gathered at the home of Carla Johnston in Davis Square to officially incorporate The Somerville Corporation as a new organization dedicated to helping meet the social needs of Somerville’s residents. Shortly after, the Somerville Corporation hired Paul Duhamel, a young ordained UCC minister originally from Providence, as its first executive director.

Celebrating 50 Years!! Together Into the Future: One small step… one giant leap.

April 23, 2019

50 years ago, on a warm day in June, 1969, a group of about a dozen people got together to launch a community based organization to serve Somerville’s low-income population by providing resources (including a food pantry) and a place to gather.  This organization blossomed into the Somerville Community Corporation—Somerville’s first and only community development corporation.

SCC's Annual Dinner: A Full and Festive Evening

SCC's Annual Dinner: A Full and Festive Evening

April 23, 2019

Without question, SCC’s most valuable resource is its people---the leaders who spend countless hours building influential campaigns; the job seekers who attend our Networking Café, and make their rounds to say hello to staff; the real estate partners who make sure our bricks go up; our board and community members who bring an event like this to life; the donors who extend our mission even further---we couldn't do it without you.  Our Annual Dinner reminds us just how lucky we are to have all of you under our metaphorical roof—and literally under the roof of the Armory.  What a fantastic and full crowd to reflect our vital community!
