Public Comments Due for Inclusionary Zoning Proposal

  • What: A proposal introduced by SCC's Affordable Housing Organizing Committee (AHOC) to require 20% affordable housing in new developments of 6+ units, with additional tenant protections and priority for those at risk of displacement.
  • When: The planning board will vote on this proposal on February 18. After that it will go to the Board of Aldermen’s Land Use Committee for a vote.

Are you considering purchasing your first home, but feeling overwhelmed by the process involved? This four-session, 12-hour class will feature presentations by a real estate agent, a lender, a home inspector, a real estate attorney and an insurance agent, in addition to SCC staff, and it will teach you everything you need to know before you start the process of buying your first home. Upon completion of the course, participants receive a certificate that enables them to access products geared specifically towards first-time homebuyers such as the ONE and MassHousing loans.

Exciting Manufacturing Program at SHS CVTE for Adults starts in January 2016!

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Somerville High School’s Center for Career, Vocational, and Technical Education (CVTE) are proud to announce the Advanced Manufacturing Training Program (AMTP), an expansion upon the CVTE’s successful youth programming. Funded with a grant by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Executive Office of Housing Economic Development, The AMTP will target Somerville residents aged 18-24 and focus on preparing them for high paying careers in the manufacturing industry.
