First Source Job Seekers Support Group

The Job Seekers Support Group is a space for job seekers to share their experiences in the job search process and networking with other job seekers.  This will also be a time for non-native English speakers to practice their language skills in a safe and comfortable environment.

Members of Jobs for Somerville led an interactive workshop on May 5 to teach First Source participants about their basic legal rights on the job and how to assert those rights. Join us for the next training at on June 2nd!

First-Time Homebuyers Class

Are you considering purchasing your first home, but feeling overwhelmed by the process involved? This new two-session, 12-hour class will feature presentations by a real estate agent, a lender, a home inspector, a real estate attorney and an insurance agent, in addition to SCC staff, and it will teach you everything you need to know before you start the process of buying your first home. Upon completion of the course, participants receive a certificate that enables them to access products geared specifically towards first-time homebuyers such as the ONE and MassHousing loans.

Union Square Workshop: What's Next?

What do you imagine your neighborhood looking like in ten years? What are important places you’d like to protect? How can we connect community concerns and values to design solutions? We’ll put markers to maps and create a community vision for Union Square East.

We invite residents from the neighborhood between Prospect, Medford, South, and Washington streets to give input on different planning + design efforts happening in Union Square.

Over the course of four weeks, participants will gain important information and skills to help them navigate their financial lives more successfully. The class will meet on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9:15 AM to Noon from June 3rd - 24th

Graduates will receive a $200 stipend to get them started on a successful financial path! The class will be open to people who live and/or work in Somerville.

Refreshments and childcare offered (childcare must be requested in advance).
