Housing Assistance Progam (HAP)

Need Help or Assistance?

The Housing Assistance Program, in existance since 1986, has as its primary goal to stabilize families by accessing afforable housing and helping to maintain current housing. Over the past year, we have assisted more than 200 families in searching for appropriate housing and accessing necessary financial support, as well as providing information and referals to these families.

We have seen many more homeless families over the past year living in shelters and motels, or in doubled up situations because of the lack of resources available. We have made some strides, thanks to the dedication of advocates and landlords that are commited to the cause. Homelessness has no particular face - it can affect anyone at any given time. We believe that homelessness must be addressed as a social problem, not an isolated problem of particular individuals and families.

In recent months we have had more success with finding affordable units due in part to the slight softening of the rental market. However, with rents still at very high levels we still struggle with accessing funds necessary for the families we serve to secure housing. We are currently looking at ways to raise additional funds dedicated to assisting families to secure permanent, affordable housing.
