Development and Communications Manager
Somerville Community Corporation (SCC) seeks a Development and Communications Manager to join our team. SCC is a 49 year old nonprofit Community Development Corporation (CDC) and the only CDC in Somerville (MA). SCC strengthens the city of Somerville by producing and preserving affordable housing, helping people realize economic opportunity, and by organizing Somerville residents to build their leadership while fighting for policies and agreements resulting in social and economic equity. SCC builds capacity through grants, contracts, housing development revenue, and donor development. To expand our reach and impact, SCC relies on strategic resource development and communications. SCC is excited to identify a strong candidate to help build organizational capacity through development and communications.
The Organization and Its Programs
SCC is a membership organization that provides leadership for sustaining Somerville as a vibrant, diverse and tolerant community. The city of Somerville is undergoing tremendous transformation in this era, with significant gentrification pressures, but also large numbers of new immigrants moving into the city. SCC works with the community to help realize outcomes of economic equity and social justice as the city of Somerville changes.
SCC’s ongoing vision is to minimize the displacement of Somerville residents, particularly low and moderate residents most vulnerable to market pressures. To do this, SCC focuses its work through three overarching approaches:
- To develop and preserve as many affordable units as we can,
- To organize community members to lead community campaigns resulting in policies and agreements that support equitable outcomes, such as expanded affordability and job opportunities
- To create access to opportunities for our constituents through financial education, first time homebuyer classes, and career training and access to good jobs through our First Source Jobs program.
