SCC’s Culinary Arts program provides five months of job training aimed at preparing graduates for careers as line cooks, prep cooks, restaurant chefs, grill cooks, assistant cooks and other culinary service positions. Additionally, program participants have the opportunity to earn college credit at Bunker Hill Community College.
The program, a First Source Jobs Program partnership with Bunker Hill, the City of Somerville, and the Metro North Regional Employment Board, is designed for people who are either interested in beginning careers in the industry or who are seeking formal training in this field.

The training program includes hands-on kitchen training, job coaching, guest speakers from the culinary world, field trips, career readiness training, and job search support. All training at Somerville Community Corporation is free, and participants who continue to BHCC may be eligible for free tuition through Pell Grants.

Phases One and Two
Phase One: The first phase of the program includes six weeks of job readiness training, including goal setting, effective communication and leadership development.
Phase Two: The next part of the First Source Jobs Culinary Training program provides two college credit classes at Bunker Hill Community College for this cohort of participants.
No work experience is necessary. Applicants do need to have a high school diploma and authorization to work in the United States.
